Stuck or Misaligned?
There are times when life feels harder than it should. You’re tired, unmotivated and irritated by things that normally wouldn’t bother you. Work feels heavier. Decisions feel harder. You procrastinate more and start questioning things you used to feel certain about.
Eventually the question appears: What is wrong with me?
You might do what many of us do and search for your symptoms online. Five minutes later, you’ve diagnosed yourself with everything from quiet quitting to burnout to depression and probably discovered three conditions you didn’t even know existed. 😉 Maybe you ask AI, carefully explaining the situation while looking for evidence to support the theory you’ve already created.
But before we disappear completely into the online rabbit hole, there might be another question worth asking:
Does the life I’m living still align with who I am and what matters to me?
Misalignment doesn’t always look like something is wrong
This is what I find interesting about alignment.
Being out of alignment doesn’t necessarily mean your life is falling apart. Sometimes your life looks amazing from the outside. You get the promotion. You earn more money. You become the person everyone relies on. You build the career, the home, the relationships and the life you thought you were supposed to want.
And then one day you realize: I don’t actually feel very good in it.
Maybe nothing is obviously wrong. You just don’t feel like yourself anymore. And that can be incredibly confusing because when something looks successful from the outside, questioning it can feel ungrateful.
So you keep going...
You work harder and set another goal — obviously a harder one, because apparently you still have something to prove to yourself. 😉 You take another vacation and become a slightly different version of yourself for a week. You buy something new that you probably don’t need, start another project, keep yourself busy and eventually decide: I’m probably just tired.
Maybe you are.
Burnout, depression and other health concerns are real, and I’m certainly not suggesting that every difficult feeling is caused by misalignment or can be solved through coaching. But sometimes there may also be another possibility worth exploring: The way I’m living no longer matches what matters to me.
So what is alignment?
“Alignment”* is one of those words we hear everywhere.
Live in alignment. Find your purpose. Be your authentic self.
Sounds beautiful. But what does that actually mean on a Tuesday morning when you have meetings, bills, responsibilities, relationships and a life you can’t simply abandon because something feels off?
For me, alignment isn’t about creating a perfect life where everything feels easy. It’s much more practical. It’s about the connection between who you are, what matters to you and how you actually live.
When those things start moving further apart, we feel the friction. Maybe it shows up as frustration, boredom, resentment, restlessness or lack of motivation.
Or simply as:
I don’t know what’s wrong. I just know I don’t feel like myself.
None of those feelings automatically mean you need to quit your job, leave your relationship or move to Bali. Life isn’t Eat Pray Love. 😉
Maybe nothing needs to change today. But perhaps something deserves your attention.
Before we blow up our lives trying to find ourselves again, there might be a much better place to start:
Where does my life still feel like mine — and where doesn’t it?
